PUBLIC NOTICE REGARDING BURN PERMITS

In Newberry Springs, if you are planning on burning Tumbleweeds, Piled Wood Waste/Brush, or a recreational burn, you will need a Burn Permit.

A Burn Permit can be obtained at the Newberry Community Services District Office during regular business hours.

Regular Business Office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, Friday from 12 noon to 4:00 pm.

PERMIT APPLICANT AGREES TO THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:

  • BEFORE BURNING CALL: 909-881-6986 or 909-883-1112 (Rule 444(c)(3)) Burn Hours:
    6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • All material must be piled/stacked in such a manner as to promote drying and insure combustion with a minimum of smoke. For minimum drying times see Rule 444(c)(1) and (c)(3))
  • Before ignition remove all trash, tires, oil filter, construction/demolition debris, plastics, rubber, motor vehicle bodies, tar, shop and household debris, etc.
  • Permittee must not burn during very hot, dry periods when winds are strong enough that burning would be unsafe.
  • The fire shall be attended at all times by a responsible person. Fire control tools, (shovel and water are required) must be on site and available until the fire is dead out.
  • All fires shall be confined within cleared firebreaks or barriers to prevent it from escaping control. If Permittee allows a fire to escape, Permittee may be found civilly or criminally negligent or in violation of the law, and held liable for All Fire Suppression Costs incurred by the Fire Department (Health & Safety Code 13009).
  • Permittee shall conform to all conditions of the permit and all applicable local and state rules and regulations.
  • Permittee shall curtail burning when informed by the issuing agency, or Air District, that such burning is causing, or contributing to the creation of, a public nuisance (Health & Safety Code 41700).
  • A valid Burn Permit must be in possession of the responsible person at the burn site during the burn.
  • If all conditions on the permit are not met, the permit shall automatically terminate.

    THE PERMIT IS VALID ONLY ON THOSE DAYS DURING WHICH AGRICULTURAL BURNING IS NOT PROBIBITED BY THE STATE AIR RESOURCES BOARD PURSUANT TO SECTION 41855 OF THE HEALTH & SAFETY CODE AND ONLY FOR THE MATERIALS LISTED ON THE PERMIT, AND ONLY AT THE SITE LISTED ON THE PERMIT.

    Permit Fee(s) effective November 1, 2008:

  • ONE DAY, ONE WEEK and ONE MONTH PERMITS: $2.00
    ($1.00 fee plus $1.00 administrative cost)

  • MULTIPLE MONTH PERMITS: $2.00 Per Month
    ($1.00 fee plus $1.00 administrative cost)

  • ANNUAL PERMITS: $20.00
    ($10.00 fee plus $10.00 administrative cost)

    BURN PERMITS MUST BE ISSUED TO THE PROPERTY OWNER OR PERSON/ENTITY LEGALLY IN CONTROL OF THE PROPERTY. THE NEWBERRY COMMUNITY SERVICES DISTRICT RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REQUIRE PROOF OF OWNERSHIP OR LEGAL CONTROL OF PARCELS.
